This reviewer is an isolated Soto Zen Buddhist practicing Shikantaza and waiting for the end. I enjoy reading many books in this genre and pass them all onto my Buddhist-bent mortician friend. She already has the book and is enjoying it also. "Coffin Man" is a wonderful exposure To another sect/school of Buddhism that as a westerner I wasn't aware of. Shinmon Aoki also opens doors to the reader about the final journey to light through excellent poetic license, both his and other's. I keep wondering through the book whether his chosen profession is still frowned upon so in Japan. This reader finds himself wishing the tome used foot notes, other than that a beautiful read !
